A review from a real-life survey user

Have you ever tried survey sites and found yourself completely frustrated and disappointed?

You signed up months ago and still haven’t received a single survey, and when you do, it feels like you’re only getting pennies for your hard work.

Fortunately, I have a survey option that is easy to use and pays fairly well. Plus, after years of using this site, I can say first hand that the surveys are fun and interesting.

It’s called Gauge Research.

What is Gauge Research?

Survey of gauges is a platform that uses surveys to help companies and organizations get feedback and insights from current or potential users. This allows them to gain better insight into what customers and users think about their products and services. This can help companies make better decisions in the future.

According to the website, Gauge has worked with major companies such as P&G, Sephora, A&E, The CW, Pinterest, Paramount, NBCUniversal and many others.

As Gaugers, you’ll be at the forefront of giving feedback to some of your favorite brands.

How long do surveys take?

Some Guage Research surveys take less than 5 minutes and others take up to 15 or 20 minutes, especially if you take the time to give thoughtful answers, which is what they’re looking for.

You can see the dollar amount you will be paid before you start the survey, so this can be a good way to gauge how long the survey will take. If you find out that the survey pays $5, you can assume that it won’t take more than a few minutes. If you see a $10 or $15 payment, you can assume it will take longer.

The good news is that you are never required to do a researchso you can skip it if you’re busy when one becomes available.

How do I know when a survey is available?

Gauge Research makes it easy. You will receive an email and text notification when the survey is available. The email usually includes the name or subject of the survey and the amount you will receive, while text alerts usually only state the subject.

You will need to opt in to both of these options when you register. I recommend getting both email and text alerts so you have a better chance of taking the survey before they run out of space.

Sometimes the surveys, especially the higher paying ones, fill up quickly, so if you’re interested in one of these, you’ll want to click on the link quickly.

Do I need a computer or phone to take surveys?

You can use any of them! I usually do surveys on my computer because I prefer typing on a keyboard to my phone. But if you’re on the go a lot, you can also use the Gauge app for surveys.

How much is meter research worth?

In accordance with their websiteGauge Research pays $10 for a quick POV survey and $500+ for deeper engagement.

In my experience, payment depends on the length of the survey. I did a couple of screening surveys where they screen you to see if you’re fit and I got $1 or $2. Usually there are only one or two questions.

For regular surveys, the payouts for me ranged from $5 per survey to $30 per survey. Most that I have participated in pay $10 per survey for a few minutes of your time.

On one occasion, Gauge emailed me after a survey and mentioned that they really liked my answers and wanted to call me. The call lasted 30-45 minutes and I was offered $250 for my time. Not bad, right?

How do I get paid?

Until recently, most users were paid by PayPal once they had a balance of at least $10. However, Gauge has recently changed that a bit. As of March 25, 2024, all rewards are paid using a platform called Tremendous.

At Tremendous, you can receive your payment through gift card options that include a selection of international currencies. You can also use direct ACH or PayPal through Tremendous for a 6% fee.

With this new change I usually use gift cards to avoid the 6% fee. Plus, there are so many gift card options for restaurants and stores where I shop regularly, so it’s not a problem.

How can I get more surveys?

I have found a few key things to do to get the most surveys possible. First, make sure you have your phone or computer nearby so you’re ready to start the survey as soon as you get a notification that a new survey is running.

Second, be honest and considerate in your answers. If there is a short answer type question, write more than a few words or sentences. Try to write at least a paragraph and be honest and sincere in what you say. Don’t just tell them what you think they want to hear.

Third, they mention that they prefer audio and video responses. I don’t know for sure, but you may get more surveys if you give audio or video responses rather than written ones.

How to begin?

You can get the Gauge Research app via Apple store or Google Play start. Or you can visit the website here. To use the app on Apple devices, you’ll need iOS 11.0 or macOS 11.0 on a Mac with an Apple M1 chip or later. Android device must be 4.4W and above. If you have any further questions, you can always contact the Gauge team through the website.

What are the biggest pros?

  1. Surveys are interesting. With Gauge, you’ll often find yourself helping out with market research for some of your favorite brands. It can be fun to know that your reactions and feedback are influencing the brands you use and care about.
  2. Everything is simple and user-friendly. Once the survey is available, you will receive an email, text message, or both (depending on your preferences). Just click on the link to start the survey.
  3. The Gauge team is amazing. All my interactions with the Gauge team have been wonderful. Everyone is so positive and enthusiastic about their work, which makes for a great environment.

What are the biggest disadvantages?

  1. Surveys may be sporadic. You may have months where you have at least one survey or more surveys per week. In other months, you may have none or only one.
  2. The new payment system is a bit more complicated. With the old system, I just clicked a button and got paid via PayPal. Now it’s just a few more clicks to get paid through Tremendous. It’s not hard though; it’s just a few extra steps. It’s actually just a few extra seconds, so it’s not a big deal, but it’s worth noting.

Final evaluation of the gauge survey

Overall, I was really happy with my experience with Gauge Research. I’ve been on Gauge for a few years now and it’s definitely the survey site I use the most. Once you sign up, be sure to read their newsletter and emails for future updates. I hope this helps you get a better idea of what Gauge Research is like.
