Many platforms hire a fairly broad cross-section of workers with different skills and subject matter expertise. Sure, some projects may require professionals with STEM knowledge—a background in coding or experience with complex statistics or linear algebra. But there are also plenty of projects that simply need strong writers with an eye for detail to chat with deep learning models or Google insights to determine which chatbot responses are more accurate.

Registration process for DataAnnotation can be a bit intense – you’ll want to set aside a decent amount of time for the qualifiers and be sure to put all your effort into completing them. But for those who do well, the site can consistently offer jobs ranging from $20 to $35 an hour or even higher depending on the individual’s AI skills.
The site offers many jobs focused on natural language processing and evaluating chatbot responses. They also often offer better paying projects for AI trainers with coding experience, especially in Python and HTML. “DataAnnotation is great, but you really need to be on top of your writing and editing game,” advised a Reddit user u/s3rndpt. “That being said, I’m making $20-$22 an hour there and I’ve heard of some people making $25 or more. There hasn’t been a shortage of tasks so far, so I spend 2-3 hours a day on projects.”
Although some users complained that they never got a job after completing the qualification, DataAnnotation Tech still has a lot of fans on Reddit. “This website has been a godsend to this substitute teacher,” he wrote u/ThadeusOfNazereth. “I’ve basically doubled my income since I joined, and it helps that I quite enjoy a lot of the tasks.
For workers performing consistent work on the platform, the company pays via PayPal a week after completing hourly projects.

2. Remote tasks / Outliers
With a simple and visually appealing user interface and a history of stable projects for many users, Remote Tasks has been popular in some corners of Reddit for a while. “I really enjoy the platform,” he wrote u/GulterySpam.
You must upload a valid ID to get started. The onboarding process for some projects requires fairly involved testing and training that some users find difficult or frustrating. But for those who perform well, it can be worth the trouble. As u/Aimeelynn0218 shared, “I auditioned for the writing expert group because of my test and my legal work history (…) My base salary was $42/hr for the first few weeks.”
It’s worth noting that Retasks seems to be in the process of being migrated to remote, many redditors indicate that they have seen a drop in work since their account moved to the new site. If you’ve signed up for Retasks and try to sign up for Outlier, you’ll get a message that reads: “Please hold! We noticed that you already have a Remotasks account, so please continue working from remotasks.com for now. We will transfer you soon!’

While most projects require a QA audit before being paid, many Redditors have reported getting paid in about three weeks.
Redditor u/One-Hospital-5561 wrote: “They are really picky with their requirements, so I had to resubmit a few times, but that was only because I wasn’t very careful the first time (…) From registration to receiving payment, it took about 3 weeks including my rejection of the submission.”
